Halloween and All Saints Day

In the USA, we know, love and celebrate Halloween every year on the evening of October 31st, which is the eve of the Christian feast of All Saints Day (All Hallows’ Day).

We take our kids trick-or-treating, schools have dress-up days, and many adults also put on costumes and go to parties.  In Miami Beach there is an unofficial block party on Lincoln Road and in Key West, celebrations include a rather flamboyant parade. Basically, Halloween is an occasion where everyone can put on a costume and be anyone (or anything) they choose.

Regardless of your Halloween costume choice, use this holiday to be more like a superhero. How? Act like one by helping others. A random act of kindness every day is good for the Soul!  And think about it… what is to stop us from being more like a superhero all year round?  Whether you chose to dress up like a superhero or villain for the day … just have fun on Halloween.  I hope you enjoy your Halloween this year, and be spooky and nice to one another!

All Saints Day (All Hallows’ Day), is celebrated by Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox churches on November 1st.   This is when the Church honors every saint, known and unknown.  The concept of All Saints Day is connected to the doctrine of The Communion of Saints. This is the Catholic teaching that all of God’s people, on heaven, earth, and in the state of purification (Purgatory), are spiritually connected and united. In other words, Catholic and Orthodox Christians (and some Protestants) believe that the saints of God are just as alive as those on earth, and are constantly interceding on our behalf.

There is a similar belief in metaphysical arena, that we are all connected and that we are in fact, all one.  So if we are all one, what you do to others you do to yourself.  Does this sound familiar?  Christian doctrine states: “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. Oneness is an amazing realization!  Once you believe and your everyday behaviors reflect the idea of oneness, you will be closer to God / Universe and be the best reflection of the same.  Let’s strive to be the best person (human being) and the best reflection of our Creator!

Have a Blessed day, week, month, year and lifetime!
